Kurosaki is a young man whose family was destroyed by swindlers. Despite that, Kurosaki grows up to become a con artist known as Kurosagi. As Kurosagi, he swindles other con artists and returns the money to the original victim. He works with the master swindler Katsuragi Toshio even though Toshio had a hand in the destruction of Kurosaki’s family. Kurosaki’s life begins to change when he meets Yoshikawa Tsurara, a young law student who disapproves of his disrespect of the law. Can she persuade Kurosaki to give up swindling and his quest for revenge?
Yamashita Tomohisa as Kurosaki (Kurosagi) :: Shortly after starring in Nobuta wo Produce, Yamashita Tomohisa gets his first lead role in this drama. Unlike his last character, Kurosaki is the exact opposite. He looks pissed off more than half the time, he’s too serious for his own good, and he doesn’t notice when he has feelings for a certain someone -cough Tsurara cough- PLUS his mind is set so much on revenge, he lives like a messy slob at home. Someone get this guy a housecleaner or something. And it couldn’t hurt Kurosaki to crack a small smile every now and then. On the other hand, Kurosaki is the best at what he does .. swindling. He’s like the one man version of Ocean’s Eleven (a movie starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts). If I were ever conned out of my money, I would hunt him down to help me. Yamapi’s protrayal of Kurosaki is quite good and it’s a role that he’s made solely for himself.
Horikita Maki as Yoshikawa Tsurara :: Ahh, Yoshikawa Tsurara is always called Yoshida by Kurosaki. Her ambitious desire for justice can really get on your nerves as she strives to tell everyone that the law is always right. Sometimes, I felt like shouting “SHUT UP ALREADY!” In the beginning, Tsurara will appear preachy and a nuissance to Kurosaki. However, later on she becomes confused as she tries to understand Kurosaki and the pain he suffers from witnessing the death of his family. You have to have at least ONE really innocent character who blindly believes that everyone is good deep down -_-; You can say these characers fail to notice the reality of life but, she adds a necessary balance to this semi-dark drama. Horikita Maki’s performance as Yoshikawa Tsurara is nothing short of perfect. Her innocent face is the perfect match for an innocent character.
Ichikawa Yui as Mishima Yukari :: Yoshikawa Tsurara’s best friend turned bitter rival. In the beginning, Yukari was friendly, fun, and kind to Tsurara. However, once Yukari was swindled by an akasagi (a swindler that uses emotions to con others out of their money) guest starring Koyama Keiichiro, she momentarily teams up with Kurosaki to swindle them for revenge. He says some things about learning to cherish someone else yada yada and then she falls for him. I don’t know if you call it love or pure infactuation; Yukari turns into the biggest -censored- I have ever seen. What ever happened to “chicks before dicks”? I guess she nevered heard that saying before. She constantly pesters Kurosaki as well as constantly torturing Tsurara, who is nothing but a friend to her. What Yukari does in the end is just .. grrrrrr! All because she couldn’t stand the fact that Kurosaki would only have his eyes on revenge and .. Yoshikawa Tsurara. Ichikawa Yui plays Yukari well in the fact that makes you want to hate her character until the bitter end.
Storyline & Relationships
Sweet Revenge .. except this revenge drama is anything but sweet. It’s heartbreaking, sorrowful, frustrating, etc. Basically, all the emotions will have you banging your head against the wall in attempt to knock yourself out of frustration. On the bright side, I’ve never found conning people more entertaining than this. But, I kinda got paranoid a bit about my money and the people I meet (only for a short while though). All the disguises Kurosaki has to wear is highly amusing as well, too bad he doesn’t cross dress .. that will be a sight to behold.
There is nothing hotter than a man out for revenge using disguises and swindling. Kurosaki constantly chases after shirosagis (swindlers who con people using business means) with the help of Katsuragi, the man responsible for the death of Kurosaki’s family. Knowing this, Kurosaki still stays close to him .. keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I guess he knew this phrase. You would think that many facial expressions come with the many disguises, but NOOO .. Kurosaki’s facial expressions remain the same throughout the entire drama; with a smile here and there. If you blink, you might miss it. Then there’s the every-so-innocent and semi-annoying Yoshikawa Tsurara who first meets Kurosaki when he was helping her uncle swindle back money. Of course, she says that it’s wrong and blah blah blah. She later becomes a tenant in Kurosaki’s apartment complex and what do you know, they are right next to each other as well. Coincidence? Sure, why not .. it’s simply fate -sarcasm- Next comes Yukari, she falls for Kurosaki after he helps her and the friendship she has with Tsurara turns a 180. She constantly tortures Tsurara who only wants to be her friend, well if you ask me, Tsurara should’ve gotten a better friend. She should’ve kicked her rich butt to the curb.
Overall, you won’t find any good examples of friendship here. But, you will find good examples of lies and deceit. There isn’t much romance, but the small moments Kurosaki and Tsurara share together are quite cute. There was nothing better than watching Kurosaki & Tsurara enjoying the fireworks together as Yukari watched bitterly from a distance. As much as Kurosaki expresses that he’s annoyed with her presence, she still persists. This girl doesn’t know when to quit. What’s worse is when she turned Kurosaki in to the police in the finale just because she couldn’t stand him and Tsurara together -_- stupid? Yes. A pain in the butt? HELL YEAH. I wanted to punch her lights out. Anyway, there are so many sad issues going on in this drama you can’t help but watch it all go down.
